Tech giant Meta recently revealed that it had removed hundreds of accounts, pages and groups on its platforms, which it found to be part of a ‘troll farm’ linked to the Malaysian Police. PDRM have since denied the claims. However, it begs the question if and how homegrown disinformation operations pose a threat to democracy. Melisa Idris speaks to, Dr Ross Tapsell, senior lecturer at Australian National University & Director of the ANU's Malaysia Institute. His research focuses on the role of disinformation and social media campaigning on the democratic process particularly within the Southeast Asian region.
