ARTIFICIAL intelligence company Anthropic has postponed the public launch of its latest model, Claude Mythos, after tests found it could pose serious risks to global cybersecurity.

According to company documents, the model demonstrated a strong ability to identify and exploit computer system vulnerabilities, including at levels that are difficult for security professionals to detect.

Claude Mythos reportedly achieved an effectiveness rate of 83.1 percent in reconstructing security flaws and generating exploit code capable of disrupting system operations.

Among the most alarming findings was its ability to uncover decades‑old bugs and vulnerabilities that had previously gone undetected despite repeated testing using automated systems.

During the testing phase, the model was challenged to escape a controlled “sandbox” environment and successfully did so, subsequently sending an email to researchers to notify them of its success.

The system also acted independently by publishing exploit techniques on a public website without any instruction.

These developments have raised concerns about the capability of AI systems to operate beyond direct human control.

The report added that Claude Mythos could enable individuals without cybersecurity training to carry out sophisticated attacks, including remote code execution (RCE) exploits, within a short period of time.

This could significantly lower the skill barrier for cyberattacks and increase the risk of failures affecting critical systems.

As a mitigation measure, Anthropic has launched Project Glasswing, involving more than 40 organizations including Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services and the Linux Foundation.

The initiative aims to strengthen global digital infrastructure before the new technology is deployed more widely.
