The simple majority method proposed for adoption by the Barisan Nasional (BN) will not affect any component party because each party has three representatives in the coalition, said BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
He said that in the BN, every party had three representatives each regardless whether the component party was big or small.
"The practice of consensus adopted by BN currently stipulates that if any party does not agree with any proposal, then it will not proceed. That's why I propose the simple majority method," he told reporters after launching the Bandar Tasik Selatan's Park N Ride facilities, here Tuesday.
Tengku Adnan said the consensus method practiced currently gave an opportunity to certain groups to manipulate the system and claimed that there were big political parties dominating other parties in the BN.
"I am deeply disappointed with this allegation," he said.
An earlier report had stated that the proposal to adopt the simple majority method compared with the consensus system used by the BN in making any decision would be presented at the BN Supreme Council meeting next year.
The BN constitution must be amended to enable the majority vote system to be implemented
