A total of RM569,000 in disaster insurance benefits have been disbursed to 569 flood victims in Kemaman since November 2015.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said of the total, RM424,000 were disbursed to 424 victims last year, while the remaining RM145,000, to those affected by floods on Thursday.
"The insurance scheme dubbed 'Kampungku' is part of the Kemaman Preparedness Model, which has been recognised as the best disaster management practice, in which villagers are required to pay a premium of RM50 while the additional RM24 are paid by Kemaman Parliamentary Office.
"In return, those who are affected by disaster or floods will receive RM1,000 within three to seven days," he said this to reporters after visiting flood evacuees at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Badrul Alam Shah, Kemasik.
Also present was Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman.
Ahmad Shabery said many flood victims in Kemaman had truly benefitted from the insurance scheme, which was introduced after the massive floods in 2014.
