Police issues 257 summonses, detain 60 under integrated operation

Police issued 257 traffic summonses and arrested 60 people in an integrated operation in and around the Southwest District on the island early today.

Southwest district police chief Supt Mohd Hatta Mohd Zain said the operation which started at 11.30pm and ended at 5am saw 302 motorcycles and 100 cars being inspected in Bayan Baru, Bayan Lepas, Sungai Ara, Teluk Kumbar and Balik Pulau.

"A total of 15 motorcycles were seized for not having valid documents and for unlawful modifications. Also 47 Myanmar and Indonesian nationals between the ages of 20 and 30 were detained for overstaying and not having proper travel documents on them," he said when contacted.

He said 13 locals, including a woman were detained under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 3 (1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
