PAS will give its full support to any amendment to the Federal Constitution that will give greater autonomy to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to hire and fire staff.

"I give the assurance that all the 21 PAS members of Parliament will support the amendments," PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said at a Dinner Talk between MACC's top management and PAS leaders at Parliament House on Tuesday night.

A news portal recently reported that the Cabinet had agreed in principle to amend the Federal Constitution to allow the MACC to hire and fire its own staff and commissioners, a step which could bolster the body’s fight against graft.

The proposed amendments will involve two key points, namely provisions on the setting up of a MACC service commission and appointment of Chief Commissioner.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull said the amendments were crucial to enhance the commission's integrity and independence.
