The number of vehicles on the road during the period of the Movement Control Order (MCO) has continued to rise.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) along with the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) had conducted 816 roadblocks nationwide and inspected 585,250 vehicles on Friday.

"This means there are more vehicles on the road, more than the previous days.

"A total of 54,781 surprise inspections have been conducted nationwide with 4,788 premises being inspected by the authorities," he said at a daily press conference here today.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said 1,565 people were detained by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) for violating the MCO on Friday compared with 1,057 the previous day.

He reiterated that the government would not tolerate anyone who flouted the directives of the MCO.

"From the 1,565 individuals arrested, 1,381 were remanded and 184 released on police bail.

"A total of 544 individuals have been indicted in court for violating the MCO.

"The total number of cumulative arrests for defying the MCO by April 17, 2020 (yesterday) was 13,639 individuals," he said.
