The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will ask Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to provide an explanation on the RM2.6 billion donation deposited into his personal account.

According to the agency, MACC has already obtained clarification from the donor and the individual has also confirmed the donation.

The identity of the Middle eastern donor however, cannot be disclosed.

“MACC found out about the details of the donor through the documents taken from the bank. We also found out that there are four letters being delivered to the bank when a large amount of money being put into Prime Minister’s account.

“The document stated that the amount of RM2.6 billion was being given as a donation,” said the agency in its statement on Wednesday.

Apart from that, MACC is asking the public not to be confused between the investigation involving SRC International and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The statement said that MACC is involved in investigating the issue revolving SRC International while the police is fully in charge of investigating 1MDB.

In other development, the controversial RM4 billion fund related to SRC International is also under MACC’s investigation and it is conducted separately from the RM2.6 billion fund probe.

“We want to emphasise that MACC has never mentioned that the case is closed. Instead, MACC only stated that the money was not from 1MDB,” it said.

Furthermore, MACC also stressed that it is responsible to conduct investigations independently, transparently and professionally without fear or favour.
