The Johor government will continue with efforts to change the public's perception on skilled trade career as a "last resort" job.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said a career in skilled trade provided a better alternative job, as well as better income.
He said among the efforts made by the government was to cooperate with industry players to ensure the skills acquired by the local work force met the needs of the employment market.
"We are always making promotions, like through advertisements, etc, but they don't seem to have much effect on the society and because of that, we are taking measures to ensure these skills trade jobs are taken by our people.
"We also ensure the training attended by students are the skills needed by the industries, so that after completing their training, there are jobs waiting for them," he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of Understanding between Kumpulan Pendidikan Yayasan Pelajaran Johor (KPYPJ) and the Oil and Gas Industry Organisation here today.
