Investigations into the RM2.6 billion that had been transferred into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s account is still ongoing, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said.
In a statement released today, the commission also said it is still probing the case involving SRC International Sdn Bhd and denied claims by certain quarters that the MACC Chief Commissioner had closed both cases.
“The MACC denies Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim or MACC as a whole had ever issued a statement saying that investigations into the RM2.6 billion funds had been closed,” MACC said.
The MACC also reiterated its statements dated Aug 3 and 5, 2015 where it had mentioned the RM2.6 billion funds were donated from a Middle Eastern donor and not 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds.
At the same time, the MACC urged all quarters not to issue statements regarding the matter as it could further confuse the people and create a negative perception towards the commission.
On Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Tan Sri Abu Kassim had been sent to meet with the donor and confirmed that there was no corruption but the RM2.6 billion funds were 100 percent donated by a family in the Middle East.
