The government has approved a RM50 million allocation to the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry to carry out the 'Hati Rakyat' (People's Heart) programme starting next month.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is also the Women, Family and Community Development Minister during the National Council for Women's Organisation's Golden Jubilee celebrations at the Dewan Perdana Felda here today.
Najib said the allocation was to assist needy single mothers, people with special needs and senior citizens.
"The assistance may be used for training, buy wheelchairs, pampers etc for senior citizens. The monetary assistance will be added on to the 1Azam programme so as to enable women who aspire to start their own small businesses, to get assistance," he said in his speech when officially opening the celebrations.
Najib also hoped all forms of assistance would reach the targeted groups.
