Five people were killed in road accidents in Besut, Kemaman and Tawau, yesterday and today.
In the first incident, two friends who were staff of Universiti Kolej Bestari (UKB) in Setiu, died when their car collided with an oil tanker at KM92 of Jalan Kuala TerengganuJerteh this morning.
According to Besut Police Chief Supt Kamaruddin Mohd Zakaria, victims Wan Noor Fadhliaton Wan Mod Fauzan, 33 and Nor Azura Husain, 36, were on their way to work in the 7.45am incident.
He said the women, both from Kelantan, had car pooled from Kota Baharu in Wan Noor Fadhliaton's Perodua Kenari car to get to their workplace in Pak Kaci, Setiu when the tanker skidded and entered the opposite lane and collided head-on with the car driven by Wan Noor Fadhliaton.
Wan Noor Fadhliaton died on the spot while Nor Azura died upon arriving at the Besut Hospital for treatment, he told reporters, here, today.
The lorry driver who escaped unhurt, has yet to be identified.
In KEMAMAN, two teenagers died when the motorcycle they were riding on skidded and crashed into a car at KM158.4 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan in Kampung Paya Berenjut, near here, last night.
Kemaman Police Chief Supt Che Suza Che Hitam said Abdul Aziz Mohd Ghaafar, 18, from Kampung Bukit Mentok, here, and his pillion rider Mohd Jabir Mohd Nasir, 19, from Kampung Kubang Ikan, Kuantan, died at the spot.
"In the 9.15pm incident at the Kampung Paya Berenjut traffic light junction, Abdul Aziz who was believed to be from Kuala Terengganu and heading to Kuantan had run through a red light and crashed into the car driven by Mohamad Amirul, 26, who was turning into the Perwaja housing area there," he said.
Che Suza said the bodies of both victims who died of head injuries was later sent to the Kemaman Hospital for post-mortem before being collected by family members, for burial.
Meanwhile, in TAWAU, a man was killed after three express buses carrying about 120 illegal immigrants for deportation were involved in a road accident at KM24 of Jalan Semporna-Tawau at 11.45am, today.
Semporna Police Chief DSP Mohd Firdaus Francis Abdullah said the victim, Mohd Azman Samsuddin, 17, who was the second driver of one of the express buses, died on the spot after sustaining internal injuries.
He said Mohd Azman's body was sent to the Semporna Hospital for post-mortem, while the illegal immigrants were safely sent to the Semporna Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex for deportation.
According to Mohd Firdaus, the three buses were on the way to the Semporna CIQ Complex from Tawau when the leading bus suddenly reduced its speed at a corner upon reaching KM24.
The two other buses could not brake in time, causing a three-vehicle collision.
