An elderly woman died while two of her family members survived a fire incident in Taman Nuri, Alor Setar, Kedah, early this morning.
The incident – which happened at around 4am, is believed to have occurred when 59-year-old Fadziah Che Othman was sleeping.
According to Jalan Tun Razak Fire and Rescue Department Enforcement Officer Mohd Helmi Badrul Hussin, the fire started at the back of the house before spreading to other areas.
Her two family members managed to escape while the victim was trapped inside.
“My team saw the victim at the living room on the upper floor and is believed trying to go to the staircase to escape the fire,” he said, here, today.
The fire was extinguished in 20 minutes.
The victim’s remains was sent to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar for investigations.
The cause of the incident and total losses is still being investigated.
