DAP-Teluk Intan candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud said she will bring the issue of price hikes in Parliament if she wins the by-election this May 31st.

"If the voters of Teluk Intan give me the opportunity to represent the Malaysians in Parliament, the first issue that I would present in my speech is the issue of price hikes," she said in a statement on Tuesday.

Dyana believed that Barisan Nasional (BN) is not telling the truth when it said that there is no choice but to raise the prices of goods.

According to Dyana, based on a survey conducted by DAP, about 50 per cent of the voters believe that the issue of price hikes is considered as 'most important', and 16 per cent believe that the issue of corruption is also very vital.

"Even though this issue is clearly the most important issue for the people of Teluk Intan, however, the Barisan Nasional government is not at all sympathetic or even concerned to overcome this problem," she said.

Besides that, Dyana also expressed regret over the government's decision of raising the electrical tariff to save Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) from registering losses in the long run.

"I feel very sorry for the Prime Minister's stand as it seems Tenaga Nasional Bhd's profit is more important than the suffering of the people. What's more, TNB's financial statements show a clear profit of billions each year," she said.

Dyana also questioned the company's profit which she said has reached a net profit of RM4.4 billion in 2012 and RM4.6 billion in 2013.

"Isn't this still not enough?" she asked, while criticizing the government's lack of action towards the real culprits who had contributed to the loss of Malaysians.

She said, money-swindling as reported in the local media where the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers seized RM1.5 million smuggled diesel, is one the main cause of the burden that the country is bearing now.

"In the end, the ones that has to bear the cost of leakage and negligence made by BN, are the people," said Dyana.

She added that the government is able to reduce the burden by eliminating corruption and swindle.
