Datuk Seri G. Palanivel managed to retain his position as MIC president after the selection committee announced today that there is no contest for the post.

The selection committee chairman, Tan Sri K. Kumaran said that since the nomination was opened today at 10:00am till 12:00 noon, there were no nomination received to compete for the presidency post.

Palanivel, who is also the Cameron Highland Member of Parliament, received 617 nomination forms signed by 3,702 MIC branch chairmen nationwide.

Previously, Palanivel had said that he will step down in 2016.
