Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has reminded the people of Sabah and all other parties involved in the Sabah state election to always practise the new normal of life with great discipline.
The prime minister said following the spike in new COVID-19 cases in the state especially in Tawau and Lahad Datu districts, the people of Sabah should be more cautious.
“Election workers should ensure that all campaign activities are carried out in accordance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the Health Ministry (KKM) and National Security Council (MKN),” he said in a special address to the nation on the current COVID-19 situation in the country.
The address was carried live over several television stations and social media platforms tonight.
Muhyiddin said that during campaigning, the people should avoid gathering in crowded and narrow places or making personal contact when exchanging greetings.
“I think voters will understand if those who go to the ground to campaign do not extend their hands in greeting.
“The important thing is we protect each other so that we do not get infected with COVID-19,” he added.
Sabah has seen a surge in new infections since Sept 10 when it recorded 40 cases, with the highest daily figure being 167 recorded on Sept 11.
So far, the active COVID-19 clusters in Sabah are the Benteng LD Cluster in Lahad Datu and Tawau with 424 positive cases, Laut Cluster in Kunak (four cases) and the latest, Pulau Cluster, also in Kunak, with nine cases.
Apart from this, all the 13 local transmission cases recorded today were in Sabah, involving 10 Malaysians and three foreigners.
