COVID-19: 99 cases recovered, 51 new cases and two deaths

A total of 99 cases have recovered from COVID-19 infection as of 12 noon on Saturday, maintaining a positive development by surpassing the number of new cases recorded by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdulah, said the increase in the number of recovered cases raised the total recovery from COVID-19 to 3,762 cases or 65.5 per cent.

He said 51 new cases were recorded to date, bringing the cumulative number of positive cases to 5,742 cases.

“Therefore, the number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity is 1,882 cases. They were isolated and were being treated.

“To date, 36 positive cases of COVID-19 are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Of these, 16 cases require respiratory aid,” he said at a daily press conference here today.  

In the same development, Dr Noor Hisham said two more deaths were recorded, bringing the cumulative death toll in the country to 98 cases or 1.7 per cent.

The victims were local men and women who died on Friday and Saturday.

“The 97th death (Case 2354) was a 62-year-old Malaysian citizen with a history of heart disease.

“He was hospitalized at Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor on March 28, 2020 and was pronounced dead on April 25, 2020 at 3.53am.

“The 98th death case (Case 2806) was a 62-year-old Malaysian woman with a history of hypertension.

"She has a history of close contact with the COVID-19 positive case number 1346 (who is her son).

"She was hospitalized at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on March 22, 2020 and was pronounced dead on April 24, 2020 at 5.43pm," he said.
