54 schools reopen in Lahad Datu and Semporna

Fifty-four schools have reopened today since it was shut down following the intrusion in Sabah last week.

From that figure, five schools are located in Lahad Datu while 49 are from Semporna.

Lahad Datu OCPD Superintendant Shamsuddin Mat said that the schools are allowed to open again after the police have confirmed that the situation there are safe and controlled.

“Only three schools have yet to reopen. They are Sekolah Kebangsaan (S.K) Lok Buani, S.K Fajar Harapan and S.K Tanjung Labian as these schools are under the red zone,” he said during a press conference.

Five schools in Lahad Datu which have reopened are S.K. Tambisan, S.K. Sahabat 16, S.K. Sahabat 4, S.K. Cenderawasih and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Desa Kencana.

However, the number of students were still low as many parents didn’t know about the reopening of schools.
