Almost 1.2 million applications for the 1Malaysia People's Aid 2016 (BR1M 2016) were rejected this year due to several major factors, said the Finance Ministry.
In a written reply at the Dewan Rakyat today, the Ministry said 24 per cent of the applications were rejected because the individual's income exceeded RM2,000, while in 21 per cent cases, the total household income was more than RM4,000.
"Other factors were 15 per cent of applicants were listed as 2016 Book Voucher recipients, 10 per cent of applicants or spouses were applicants for other aids (duplication), while in another 10 per cent, the information about the spouse differed from the National Registration Department and required verification.
"At the same time, 20 per cent were due to other factors," the ministry said in response to a question from V. Sivakumar (DAP-Batu Gajah) who asked what were the other factors besides household income which resulted in a person being disqualified from BR1M.
He also asked about the number of applications which were rejected as well as the percentage of rejection based on the factors.
According to the Finance Ministry, the rejected applicants could appeal at all Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) branches from March 15 to April 15 by submitting all relevant documents.
"This is stated in the letter sent to the rejected applicants and also through the e-BR1M system on the LHDN website," the ministry said.
