Threat of violence is hanging over the advance voting for the Thailand general election scheduled for Sunday.

Pattani Election Commission (EC) chairman Nipon Narapitakkul is worried about violence and feels the advance voting may not proceed as planned.

The two polling centres for Pattani were pasted with notice that they must not open for advance voting Sunday to avoid violence.

The centres are at Pattani Administrative Region Hall and Decha Pattanayanukul School.

Pattani has over 30,000 registered voters, of whom 90 percent are soldiers from outside the region serving here.

Nipon said the two polling centres cannot be used due to threat from "Before Election Reform," the anti-government group who wants reformation before election is held.

The Thailand EC in Bangkok had sent a note that if advance voting could not proceed tomorrow due to opposition, it would be called off to avoid dispute and deferred to another date.

The Constitution Court yesterday decided that the Feb 2 election may be postponed and Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and Thailand EC chairman Supachai Somcharoen can fix another date.

People's Democratic Reform Committee chairman Suthep Thaugsuban had said the group would not interfere with the advance voting tomorrow.

Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, Suranand Vejjajiva said the advance voting would proceed as the general election set for Feb 2 is still on.
