A strong earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck at the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border at 6.28 pm today.

According to a Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) statement, the epicentre was 153 kilometres southeast of Taloqan, Afghanistan and 4,438 kilometres northwest of Padang Besar, Perlis.
