The Federal government yesterday gave RM1 million to the Kelantan football team as an incentive for winning the FA Cup, Super League and Malaysia Cup titles this season.
Kelantan Umno Liaison chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had agreed to give the incentive since the success had contributed positively to unity in the state.
"We want football to unite the people of Kelantan. It doesn't matter under which banner they are," he told reporters when speaking to about 10,000 Kelantan fans who had gathered to celebrate the success of winning the three titles, at Sekolah Kebangsaan Machang I yesterday.
Also present was Kelantan Football Association President Tan Sri Annuar Musa and Machang Umno division chief Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaacob.
Apart from the RM1 million contribution from the Federal Government, the Kelantan Umno Liaison also contributed RM200,000 to support the development of football in the state.
