An internal inquiry will be called to seek who issued the orders to bar non-Muslim reporters from entering a Puteri UMNO event on Tuesday at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).
Its chief, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said she viewed this matter seriously as Puteri UMNO had never intended to prevent any media, Muslim or not, from covering the event.
"It is a Puteri (UMNO) event, why would we want to limit the media coverage?"
"In fact, I want more coverage in order to increase the exposure of the DIAN (Daulat Islam Agama Negara) squad," said Mas Ermieyati, when met by Astro AWANI here on Wednesday.
Based on initial queries, the Masjid Tanah MP said she was made to understand that the coordinator felt since it was an Islamic-centric programme, Muslims would be more adept at reporting any issues highlighted.
She was adamant that she is in the dark of such an order being issued.
"As I were there, we noticed that several non-Muslim reporters were already covering the event," she said.
"However, do not get me wrong, the order given should not be done in the manner, based from the reports made by several media.
"For that, I would like to offer my apologies to the members of the media who were affected by this miscommunication," said Mas Ermieyati.
She was responding to reports in the media that a Puteri UMNO event had barred several non-Muslim reporters from entering the event.
A Malay news portal yesterday reported that securities on duty at the event claimed that they were merely carrying out their duties to 'ban' non-Muslim reporters from attending the launch yesterday.
