Adenan hints state election may be his last

Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem indicated the 11th State Election maybe his last.

However, in front of almost 1,000 residents of Lundu, here, he gave his assurance to provide even more amenitites for Sarawakians.

"I am old at 72 years old, in the next election I will be 77. I think it is enough but before I leave as an elected representative, I want to pass on all kinds of facilities for our area," he said.

He said before launching the Sungai Batang Kayan bank project and the ground breaking ceremony for a river bank protection project at Sungai Kampung Semunin Jaya, Lundu near here today.

Also present was Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Adenan, who is the incumbent state assemblyman for Tanjung Datu, said the current state election would be the 11th he was contesting in an election.

"If I win this time, it will be the 11th, earlier I won seven times in Samarahan state seat and once in the Batang Sadong Parliament seat and twice in Tanjung Datu and this is the third time I am standing in Tanjung Datu.

"Give me five more years, much more can be done here," he said.

Adenan said the cordial relations between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and him could contribute towards a smoother implementation of development in Sarawak.

"The Prime Minister came to Sarawak 49 times, more than the visits of the five prime ministers before him. He always comes bearing more than a smile," he added.
