A weak earthquake with the magnitude of 4.0 hit the Mount Kinabalu area, about 16km west of Ranau, the Malaysian Meteorological Department website stated.

The earthquake which occurred at about 9.39am today, lasted for about three seconds.

Tremors were felt in Ranau, Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Tuaran.
