Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Standard Operating Procedure for cutting the forest should be made stringent to make sure the environment is not affected.

The Deputy Prime Minister said state governments could cut the forest but it must be on a sustainable basis.

"We (must) make sure that a certain percentage of the country are still green. We have good timber, but you only can cut certain amount.

"If you cut, you have to replant or do something like that," he said in his speech before receiving contribution for flood relief efforts on behalf of the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (TSM) Charity Golf Club, here on Wednesday.

"It is going to be very bad if this thing continues," he said.

Earlier, Muhyiddin who is also the founder of TSM Charity Golf Club received mock cheques from Hong Leong Foundation, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad, Mammoth Empire Holdings Sdn Bhd, Perdana Park City Sdn Bhd and Genting Malaysia Berhad totalling RM2.1 million to help the flood relief efforts.
