Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) claimed that it was not hasty in proposing a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate pledges linked to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) debacle.

By calling for a RCI, the debt-stricken 1MDB is actually doing the government a favour to clear their name in the fiasco.

Perkasa President, Ibrahim Ali in a press conference said, “Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has given its assurance that 1MDB is okay and is in good hands. Why not we take that at face value and set up a commission for the inquiry”.

The setting up of a Royal Commission, Ibrahim said, “would help clear all the allegations on the Prime Minister and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

When asked about the previous inquiry commission that have been rejected, he said, “we’ll keep on pushing the idea of a RCI for investigations".

At present, Ibrahim said Perkasa is not accusing anyone and all it wants is to get the truth in the best interests of the people.

While there have been many allegations from various sources including news portals and key political figures, Perkasa has decided to weigh in all facts and figures before making any claims.

“As you know, Malaysia is subject to the attention of foreign media which is why we must be careful with foreign media reports.

“That is why we have taken time to compile information from different news sources–local and foreign– as well as the statements made by political figures such as Tun Dr. Mahathir and Tun Daim Zainuddin as well as prominent blogger, Datuk A.Kadir Jasin,” he added.

Ibrahim also said that Perkasa has always been at the forefront in addressing any issues pertaining to the country.

“While many have claimed that Perkasa was silent in addressing the 1MDB scandal, I would like to say that Perkasa was not hasty in reacting immediately to such a complex issue,” he added.

Earlier a closed discussion was held among the supreme council of Perkasa, the bureau of economy of Perkasa and the integrity bureau of Perkasa to discuss the 1MDB issue.

The closed discussion organised by Perkasa was attended by some 45 members of the respective divisions in the quest of seeking the truth for the people and nation.
