MIC vice-president Datuk M.Saravanan is confident of getting the support of party grassroots leaders if he contests in the party re-election.
He said the party members in each division had been giving him strong support and they would make a wise decision in the coming election.
Saravanan stressed that the focus now was on the presidential election which would determine the new direction of the party.
"I have obtained support not only from Penang but also from other states," he told reporters after attending a ponggal celebration at Sree Mariamman Hall, here, Sunday.
He said MIC should not blame others for lodging complaints with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) and should instead realise the problems faced by the party.
In a letter dated Dec 5, 2014, RoS ordered MIC to hold re-election for the three vice-president posts and 23 seats in the party's Central Working Committee.
