Police mount manhunt for convict who escaped from hospital

Police have mounted a manhunt for a convict who escaped from the Selayang Hospital while seeking treatment, here Monday.

Gombak police chief, ACP Ali Ahmad said the suspect known as Kalaivanan Muniandy, 33, escaped from the control of the prison wardens at about 2.40pm.

"The suspect was sent to the hospital after complaining of abdominal pain. During the incident, two wardens were waiting outside the treatment room and did not realise that the suspect had fled.

"So far, we have not yet received a report from the prison, only the hospital lodged a report," he said.

The suspect is serving a one year sentence at the Kajang Prison for vehicle theft under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
