MIC president Datuk Seri G Palanivel said today that the MIC will not take up any positions, including posts of special officer and adviser to the Menteri besar, if the Perak government deprives MIC a speakers post.
“We will not take any positions in the Perak state government,” said Palanivel in a statement.
The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment said that the MIC will soon convene a quick central working committee meeting to discuss this matter.
“We will also discuss issues related to branch elections, presidential elections , divisions elections and party elections for office bearers.”
The meeting is scheduled to be on Tuesday (June 18) at the party headquarters.
Palanivel, who is also Cameron Highland MP, said when the opposition was running Perak state government it gave an Indian the speaker post. When the BN took over the state government, MIC was given the speaker position.
In 2008, when Pakatan Rakyat won the Perak state, it gave the post of the State legislative assembly Speaker to the then Tronoh assemblyman V. Sivakumar ― the first Indian in the state to be given such a position. When BN wrested Perak, it appointed MIC chief Datuk R. Ganesan.
“Now we have been deprived of the position...Perak Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir) should decide to give us back the post,” he said.
Otherwise MIC will remain BN friendly in Perak but will not take any positions including councillors as a sign of protest, added Palanivel.
He added he had raised this issue with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Umno’s vice president and an MP in Perak.
