Former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim Tuesday defended the additional budget prepared for the state during his tenure.
Referring to the state budget, which is in deficit of RM630 million, tabled by his successor Mohamed Azmin Ali last Friday, Abdul Khalid (Independent-Port Klang) said the preparation of additional budget could control the state's expenditure and capable of increasing revenue reserves.
While saying that the preparation of additional budget was not an offence, the former menteri besar also said that such a move would ease the assessment of future expenditure and in listing out the income generated by the state government.
"This is because we cannot anticipate the amount of money to be spent in the future because sometimes the amount needs to be increased," he said when debating the motion for Development Allocation Budget 2016 at the State Assembly sitting here Tuesday.
Last Friday, Mohamed Azmin tabled the deficit budget of RM2.88 billion, which is said to be the biggest budget in the state's history.
The budget allocates RM1.44 billion for management and another 1.44 billion for development expenditure.
