COVID-19: Malaysia records another death, 88 new positive cases

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed another case of COVID-19 death, bringing the cumulative number of deaths in Malaysia to 96 cases.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of 12 noon on Friday, there were 88 new positive cases, bringing the country's total number of COVID-19 positive cases to 5,691.

He said there were 121 cases of those recovered and allowed to be discharged, resulting in a cumulative total of 3,663 cases equating to 64.4 per cent of the total cases.

“Therefore, after the cumulative cases are deducted from both the discharged and death cases, the total number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity is 1,932 cases. They were isolated and treated.


“To date, 41 positive cases of COVID-19 are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Of these, 18 cases require respiratory assistance,” he said at a daily press conference here on Friday.

The details of the death case as of April 24, 2020 are as follows:

The 96th death (Case 2978) was a 61-year-old Malaysian citizen with a background in diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease. He has a close contact history with COVID-19 (case number 1345) with a history of returning from Indonesia. He was hospitalized at the Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor on March 31, 2020 and was pronounced dead on April 24, 2020 at 2.29 am.
