COVID-19: 50 new cases, 90 recovered and no deaths

A total of 50 new cases of COVID-19 were reported today, bringing the total number of cumulative cases in the country to 7,059.

Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity was 1,149 cases.

At the same time, he said 90 cases have recovered and discharged from hospital.

"Please note that out of the 50 new cases reported, three were imported cases of overseas infections.

"Of the 47 local transmission cases, 41 cases were non-Malaysian nationals and 34 cases were detected at the Immigration Detention Depot (DTI) in Bukit Jalil.

"They have been in detention since the commencement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) on March 18," he said at a press conference here Thursday.

Dr Noor Hisham said at present, there were 10 positive cases of COVID-19 being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) with seven patients in need of respiratory help.

In the meantime, he said the National Crisis Preparedness and Emergency Action Centre (CPRC) had announced that there were no new deaths related to COVID-19.

"Thus, the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia remains at 114 cases (1.61 per cent of the total case)," he said.
