Malaysians are grateful for the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) aid that is expected to ease the burdens in their daily lives.
The response came following an announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today that under BR1M 2014, households of RM3000 or under will receive RM700, an increase from RM500.
The cash aid will consist of RM650 while an additional RM50 will be contributed to an insurance programme, Group Takaful Rakyat 1Malaysia (i-BR1M).
A retiree from the Public Works Department Mustafa Harun said the aid will assist senior citizens like him to pay for household items.
“The aid from BR1M will help an elderly person like me to pay for electricity and water bills as well as other household items. I can also use the money to buy groceries for my wife,” said the 73-year old man.
Mohd Jamil Rahim, who is disabled, meanwhile said the increase is very much welcomed.
“I want to thank the Prime Minister. I’m happy that we are getting RM650 compared to RM500 previously. I will use the money in the best way possible,” said the 38-year old man.
Haji Said, 69 said he is thankful that the government is concerned over the welfare of the rakyat.
“The government never breaks its promise... the BR1M aid is one of the best” said Haji from Kampung Pandan.
Meanwhile, P. Muniyamal, 70 expressed his happiness at receiving the aid.
“I am very happy. I will use this money for my tailoring business,” he said.
During the event, Najib also announced an increase from RM250 to RM300 for singles aged 21 and above who earns less than RM2,000 a month.
Under i-BR1M insurance scheme, recipients will be entitled for coverage of up to RM1000 in the event of natural death and a maximum of RM30,000 in the event of death caused by accident or permanent disability.
