SUNGAI PETANI: A boy died after being left for more than four hours in a locked car at a kindergarten in Taman Ria, here.

The 3-years 11-months-old victim is believed to be trapped in a vehicle driven by the kindergarten's principal.

According to Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah, at the time of the incident, the victim was in a car with doors and mirrors closed and no ventilation.

He said the victim was believed to have been left in the car from 8 am to 12.15 pm.

“The incident was only realised at 12.15 pm when the principal wanted to send the victim home but found he was not in the classroom.

“The class teacher told the principal that the victim was not present at school causing the woman to continue heading to her car which was parked on the side of the road and found him lying unconscious,” Adzli said.

Adzli added that the principal immediately called an ambulance and also performed respiratory assistance (CPR) on the victim, but the victim was unconscious.

He said the victim was then taken to the hospital by ambulance and the results of the doctor's examination found that the victim had died on arrival at the hospital and there were no signs of injuries on the outside.

According to Adzli, the victim had been sent to a kindergarten for almost a year to be cared for by a nanny there.

“Prior to the Movement Control Order (MCO), the kindergarten principal, a 49 -year-old woman, would take the victim from her parents’ house to the kindergarten on Sunday to Thursday.

"However, after the MCO, only on Tuesday and Wednesday will the woman principal pick up and send the victim; while on other days the victim will be sent by her own mother," he said in a statement today.

Adzli said the initial investigation found that the kindergarten principal invited the victim to her house in Taman Ria at 7.45 am yesterday.

He said at the time the victim was in good health and was in the left back seat.

“Before that, the principal also took another five-year-old student and put him in the front passenger seat.

"However, upon arriving in front of the kindergarten, a teacher then took the student who was in the front passenger seat and went straight into the kindergarten, while the principal continued to park her car outside the kindergarten and turned off the car engine," he said.

The second child of two siblings was confirmed dead while on his way to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) here.

He said his party detained the woman principal to help with the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Children Act 2001.
