643 arrested, 229 foreign workers test positive for COVID-19 yesterday - Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR:A total of 643 individuals were arrested yesterday for violating the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Senior Minister (Defence Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said of the total, 623 were compounded while another 20 remanded.

Among the offences recorded were not wearing face masks (144), crossing districts or states without permission (112), no physical distancing (133), failing to provide equipment to record customers (112), premises operating overtime or without permission (34), leaving home without a reasonable reason (42) and others (66)," he said in a statement today.

Through Op Benteng, Ismail said 14 illegal immigrants (PATI) were arrested besides five land vehicles seized.

Apart from that, he said, the enforcement of the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) had conducted nine inspections on construction sites nationwide, yesterday.

"The result of the inspection found that eight construction sites complied with the SOP while another did not," he said.

Regarding the screening of foreign workers, Ismail said a total of 8,717 foreign workers underwent screening tests yesterday and of that number, 299 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
