A coalition of Islamist groups including Mohamed Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood on Saturday vowed further "peaceful" protests after a day of deadly clashes across the country following the president's overthrow by the military.

"The masses will continue their civilised protests and peaceful sit ins in Cairo until the military coup is reversed and the legitimate president is restored," the coalition said in a statement.
